The Housing Authority of the City of San Luis Obispo (HASLO) closed escrow on March 24, 2016, on 1.6 acres of vacant land located at 3680 Broad Street in San Luis Obispo. The property is an “in-fill” site situated between Blackhorse Expresso and Bakery on the north and Marigold Shopping Center on the south, with SESLOC Federal Credit Union and Damen-Garcia Sports Fields on the west. HASLO is working with investors, the local Housing Trust Fund and the City Affordable Housing Program to construct a mixed use development that will consist of 46 apartments and approximately 10,000 square feet of commercial space. Construction should start by December 2016. The residential component will target local workforce households with incomes ranging from $18,000 to $50,000, and will include a mixture of 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments. “We are excited to provide additional workforce housing in the City, and we’re particularly excited about the mixed use aspect of this development,” said Scott Smith, Executive Director of HASLO. The site had historically been owned by the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, and HASLO plans to utilize their members in the construction of the new development.
